Code of Conduct

ALPHA-Canada Code of Conduct

ALPHA-Canada is a team composed of members from a variety of backgrounds with a common goal of furthering the scientific knowledge in the field of antimatter research.

ALPHA-Canada is committed to providing safe and inclusive spaces for all its members. Everyone is expected to be respectful of all individuals, and discrimination based on gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, age, marital status, level of education, field of education, political affiliation, or any other characteristics will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to any form of sexual harassment, intimidation, threatening behaviour, sustained disruption, use of offensive or demeaning language, including inappropriate jokes, unwanted photography, screenshots, or recording.

Disruptive or harassing behavior of any kind is unacceptable and will result in immediate corrective action. Any report of inappropriate behaviour will be taken with the utmost seriousness. Any member that violates this Code of Conduct will face consequences up to and including removal from projects funded by ALPHA-Canada. Members are expected to abide by this code of conduct during any formal or informal meeting, onsite or offsite or virtually, and in all electronic communications. If the violation occurs during a meeting, the meeting chair has the authority to remove the individual at their discretion.

If you believe that you have been subject to or have witnessed behavior (not limited to ALPHA-Canada members) that violates this code of conduct, please report it immediately to your supervisor and/or any member of the EDI committee (see next page) and/or:

  • Display intellectual honesty and accountability.

  • Exercise authority responsibly.

  • Avoid conflict of interest.

  • Provide professional feedback in a constructive and respectful manner.

  • Create and maintain a professional environment characterized by tolerance and respect.

[Equity, diversity, and inclusion]

  • Respect differences.

  • Welcome and include all members.

  • Value and acknowledge all contributions, regardless of who is the proponent.

[Privacy]

  • Keep personal information shared with attendees private.

  • Always ask permission before sharing others’ contact information.
